The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the gift of the cherry blossom trees in 1912, and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. The Festival produces and coordinates daily events featuring diverse and creative programming promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty, and community spirit. Events are primarily free and open to the public. and the Tidal Basin serves as the National Park Service Welcome Center for much of the activity.
Through September, participants may make advance group reservations for times between 10am-4pm, on the hour. The Tidal Basin boats will be open until 6pm for walk-up business (with the last boats out at 5pm). Pre-registration guarantees boat rentals.The Tidal Basin Paddle Boats are open from early March through Columbus Day weekend every year.
